"Most importantly, there is a responsibility to the community. We have to operate in a transparent, fair, and respectful manner, continuing the trust that has been built over four decades."

- Brendon Hall, Dealer Principal, The Honda Way

Throughout June, The Honda Way is celebrating Customer Appreciation Month, a time to recognize the customers, employees, families, and community members who have helped shape our story over the past four decades.

As we celebrate those relationships, we are also reflecting on a significant milestone: 40 years of serving Abbotsford and the surrounding community.

Since opening its doors in Abbotsford in 1986, The Honda Way has grown alongside the community it calls home. What began as a local Honda dealership has evolved into a second-generation family business built on relationships, trust, and a commitment to giving back. For 40 years, drivers from Abbotsford and across the Fraser Valley have trusted The Honda Way for their automotive needs, creating connections that extend far beyond the showroom.

The story began with Byron and Lola Hall, who opened The Honda Way in Abbotsford in 1986. Together, they built more than a Honda dealership. They built a family business grounded in relationships, community involvement, and a commitment to treating people with care and respect.

Four decades later, many of the same values that guided the dealership in its early years continue to shape The Honda Way today.

For Dealer Principal Brendon Hall, the milestone carries a unique significance.

"When I think about 40 years of The Honda Way, I also think about my own life, because I am 40 years old as well," Hall says.

The anniversary serves as both a reflection on the dealership's history and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with carrying its legacy forward. As the second generation to lead the family-owned business, Hall has witnessed firsthand how the dealership has grown alongside the community over the years.

Some of his earliest memories are tied to the dealership's previous location and the people who helped build it.

"I think about the showroom floor at our previous location," Hall recalls. "It had stamped concrete, and for some reason that always left a lasting impact on me. I also think about the staff. Over the years, our team has always been loving, supportive, and deeply connected to the business."

Those memories reinforce what Hall believes has always been at the heart of The Honda Way: people.

That commitment to people has been central to the dealership's success for four decades.

As the second generation to lead the family-owned business, Hall understands the responsibility that comes with carrying forward a dealership that has become deeply rooted in the community.

"That responsibility starts with our staff, who rely on the business and its operations to provide for themselves and their families," Hall says. "It also extends to Honda, because we have a duty to uphold the strength, reputation, and trust that comes with the Honda name."

Most importantly, however, it extends to the community.

For Hall, a local dealership should be more than a place that sells vehicles. It should be an active participant in the community it serves.

Over the years, The Honda Way has supported local charities, community organizations, youth sports, fundraising initiatives, and community events throughout Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley. Giving back has always been an important part of the dealership's identity and a reflection of the support it has received from the community.

"A local dealership should be involved in the community it serves," Hall says. "For us, that means supporting the community that supports us."

That philosophy has helped shape The Honda Way for four decades.

While the automotive industry has changed dramatically since 1986, Hall believes one value has remained at the centre of everything the dealership does: family.

"The value that has remained most consistent over the years is family," he says.

That belief extends beyond ownership. It influences how employees are supported, how customers are welcomed, and how relationships are built throughout the organization.

"We have always tried to treat our staff like family, and we have always tried to treat our customers with care and respect, as though they were family as well."

Over the years, those relationships have grown across generations. Families who purchased their first Honda from The Honda Way have returned with their children and grandchildren. Customers have referred friends, neighbours, coworkers, and loved ones. Many of those relationships continue today.

"When families continue to come back over the years, and when they refer their friends and family to us, that tells us we are doing something right," Hall says. "That kind of trust is never taken for granted."

Trust is not built overnight.

According to Hall, one of the most underestimated aspects of building a business that lasts 40 years is the consistency required to earn and maintain that trust.

"A business like this does not happen by accident," he says. "It requires sacrifice, long-term thinking, and a commitment to doing the right things day after day."

That commitment has helped The Honda Way navigate changing markets, evolving customer expectations, and an industry that looks very different today than it did when the dealership first opened in Abbotsford.

As the dealership reflects on the past, Hall remains focused on the future.

"Our goal is to stay the course, continue taking care of our staff, and remain committed to the community that has supported us for so many years," he says.

The business will continue to evolve, and the automotive industry will continue to change, but Hall believes the values that built The Honda Way will continue to guide its future.
